10:11 PM - Twins/OC Peeves I'm Trying to Avoid
1. Haruhi-clones ( tomboyish girl that is almost like Haruhi)
2. American OC. ( I'm Puerto Rican, but I thought that my OC should be Japanese herself.)
3. Making Etsu like me and saying it. (When you think a character is 'like' you, you accidently make her into a Mary Sue without knowing it until its too late, so its best to think of her/him as a unique individual separate from you.)
4. Using the twins and depicting them as hollow 'figureheads'. ( they have their own relationship, personalities, and thoughts and I like writing it! I'm a hardcore Hitanchiincest fan!)
5. Only OC POVs ( I found myself hating fics that did that. I like keeping it evened out between all characters. Sometimes Etsu's POVs doesn't even appear in some chapters.) 6. OC Lists in first chapter (I don't know, but all the fics that did that turned me off instantly. OCs should be kept a mystery.)
6. Perfect, flawless OC ( I think everyone agrees with).
7. Only implying twincest without much detail. (I really found myself hating that, because when you think Hikaru/Kaoru, you think TWINCEST. I've seen way too many fics that make them straight. *cringes*)
8. Predictability (I like plot-twisting, but keeping the mini-plots as part of the HUGE PLOT.)
9. Unrealism ( the twins have a incestous relationship, so making it without conflict is making it unrealistic. I'm sure anyone in a relationship of this kind have difficulties not only with themselves but with society in general.)
10. Fluff (I HATE FLUFF! Mostly when it's spontanious. I'll only write it if a 'moment' calls for it, otherwise don't expect a fic of mine to have it in large quantities. *URG*)
11. Making it just about the OC (c'mon, it's a fic that has twincest as a plotline-base. It can't be all about her.)
12. Instant attraction ( it's best to have a character EARN that attraction, not just get it on the first shot for no reason. I've seen a lot of Haruhi/Twins that did that as well)
13. Bad grammar, not separating POVs, etc ( I think this has been the downfall of most OC fics. Some have really good ideas and plots, but when its written out, things like grammar/vagueness/pace could turn people away from an otherwise great story)
14. Review whoring ( don't do that to a fic, especially an OC-fic. People will either not review it or flame you for thinking of review-whoring for chapters on a new character they don't know. MMorg had a bunch of writers doing that and their stories remain unfinished and mostly only ONE CHAPTER; they also have a flame or two.)
15. Over the top characteristics (don't make her 'amazing' to the point of nausea. That mainly explains why I made Etsu have a truly evil-streak and negative-quiet-presence that rubs the characters the wrong way, because as a flaw IT HAS TO create an adversion.)
16. Reverse Harem (I HATE that genre, even if its Haruhi. Making the twins fall for the same girl is kind of pushing it, but having one or two other hosts other than them sniffing after her really kills an OC).
17. Lack of unique personality (OHSHC is a manga/anime that has pretty flamboyant characters. The only 'normal' one is Haruhi herself. You have to make a char that fits in the crazy OHSHC-verse, yet isn't the same as other cannon in the series and doesn't grab all of the attention. If she can stand on her own without being a Mary Sue, I'll give you cookies!)
18. Tragic OCs ( making an OC an orphan, repeatedly raped and handicapped is not going to keep her from being a Mary Sue. I hate exagerated tragic OCs. It's okay to give them their sad moments and trials, but not by overdoing it like a lot of writers do by making these OCs live an 'unfair battle' for just breathing. I saw one OC that was beaten by her brother just because 'he didn't like her' and another OC nearly getting raped for 'just being in a place with horny boys' or being a sex-slave/courtesan 'because her mother was one and raised her to be one'. Sounds exagerated enough? Everyone has a tragedy or two in their lives, but NOT this DRASTIC!)
